Antonio Hidalgo
Antonio Hidalgo, born in Lucena (Córdoba), began his studies of Classical and Regional Spanish Dance and flamenco with professors Antonio Sierra and Julia Casaño, he made his professional debut at flamenco festivals in Córdoba later joining the Ballet de Carmen Mota performing throughout the national and international territory including Europe, Miami (U.S.A.) and Venezuela.
In 1990 he formed his own dance company in the Costa de Sol (Spanish Mediterranean) performing in ballrooms and flamenco “tablaos”until 1992 and in the same year relocated to Madrid where he joined some of the most prestigious dance companies in Spain including Paco Romero, José Antonio and his Ballet Españoles, José Greco, Antonio Gades where he interpreted the leading role of Escamillo in Antonio Gades' theatrical production of “Carmen”.
In 1996 he entered into a new phase performing and assisting, in some cases, with the choreography for Dance Companies such as María Benítez, Masamy Okada and Yolanda Gonzáles among others.
Mr. Hidalgo studied Classical Spanish Dance with Nadine and also with Aurora Boch, Regional Spanish Dance with Paco Romero, Elvira Andrés and flamenco with Ciro, Manolete, Belén Maya, La China etc. Since 1998 he has been the Choreographer and Artistic Director of Carlota Santana's “Flamenco Vivo” based in New York city where he has presented flamenco productions such as “Mano a Mano”, "El café de Chinitas", “Bailaora-Bailaor” among others, with very favorable critic and public acclaim. He created and choreographed performances for various dance companies in the U.S.A. and Japan collaborating with the distinguished Masamy Okada in the productions of “Edipo” and “Kurozuka”.
He has created and collaborated with various flamenco-fusion groups such as Kon-Raza and Arickytwon and has extensive experience in television and theater having worked with Directors such as Miguel Narros, Salvador Távora and Antonio Molero among others, also in musicals such as “La Truhana”and “Viva Mozart”. Mr. Hidalgo has also collaborated with the Louisville Opera (Kentuckey) in productions such as “Carmen” and “La Traviata“.
He is a founding member of S.L.BLOKE BROSS- an organization dedicated to the task of contracting of artists, production, direction and choreography of events. This organization frequently collaborates in television programs of popular Spanish comedians Cruz y Raya and on special projects of Juan Pardo among others.
